ABOUT JOSE EMILIO SAGARó
Jose-Emilio Sagaró is a director and producer and the founder of Filmheads, a Miami-based production company he established in 2008.
Born and raised in Miami, Sagaró came up in hip hop culture as a graffiti writer and b-boy — the foundation of a visual sensibility he developed further through trade school coursework and more than a decade of hands-on design work. He spent eleven years as a designer and owner of a marketing company before moving into directing full time.
Sagaro built his directing career alongside the global rise of Latin urban music, working with J Balvin, Karol G, Bad Bunny, Daddy Yankee, Anuel AA, Juanes, Eladio Carrión, Myke Towers, Jay Wheeler, Peso Pluma, and Ed Sheeran. His credits include the visual album for J Balvin's JOSE and Karol G's "El Makinon," along with commercial and branded campaigns for national clients, the Complex and Champs Sports series Her Take, and the documentary series OYE.
His current work centers on original intellectual property, with a particular focus on Cuban-American stories and the culture of Miami. He is directing and producing Alvarez Guedes Vol. 33, a feature documentary on the Cuban comedian whose recordings became a language of their own for a generation in exile. He is also co-owner of 32S1 Records & Publishing, a label and publishing company that partners with Interscope Records on select projects.
He lives and works in Miami & New York.
